The injury-riddled Washington Redskins entered Tuesday with a thinning practice squad. This evening the team announced the signing of a running back to fill one spot, and reportedly have agreed to terms with an offensive lineman to fill the other.
The team announced the signing running back Kestahn Moore to the practice squad -- a move that e filled the opening that was created when the team promoted running back James Davis to the 53-man roster.
Moore, a 5-foot-10, 214-pound former Florida standout originally signed with Denver as a free agent in April of 2009, but was cut two months later. The Kansas City Chiefs signed him in December but then cut him this past preseason. Moore during the preseason rushed for six yards on two carries and had two catches for 21 yards.
While at Florida, Moore helped helped the Gators to BCS National Championships in both 2006 and 2008 while appearing in 53 games and starting 21. He finished his career with 1,281 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 235 attempts.
Additionally, And 106.7 The Fan's Grant Paulsen is reporting that the team has also agreed to a deal for guard/tackle Jacob Bender to join the practice squad. Bender, who was playing for the UFL's Hartford Colonials, Bender was selected in the sixth round of the 2007 draft by the New York Jets and appeared in two games. In 2008, he signed with the San Francisco 49ers, where he worked under current Redskins offensive line coach Chris Foerster.
The 6-foot-6, 315 pound Bender was out of the NFL last season. He is a native of the D.C. area and played high school ball at DeMatha before going on to play for Nicholls State.
Bender takes the place of tackle Will Robinson, who today left Washington's practice squad to be a part of the Seattle Seahawks' 53-man roster. Offensive line depth definitely is a need for the Redskins given the fact that center Casey Rabach, starting right guard Artis Hicks and backup left guard Derrick Dockery are all injured.
It has been a busy day for the Redskins. Earlier today met their need for a backup safety when they signed former Virginia Tech standout Macho Harris, who was cut this year by the Philadelphia Eagles.
