USC’s Sanchez moves into second
For the second week in a row, Missouri senior quarterback Chase Daniel leads the Heismanpundit.com/Orlando Sentinel Heisman Poll , a weekly straw poll consisting of 10 Heisman-voting members of the college football media.
Daniel, coming off a 405-yard, 4-touchdown performance in a 69-17 win over Nevada, collected 4 first-place votes and 44 points to move comfortably ahead of USC junior quarterback Mark Sanche z, who surged into second place (3 first-place votes, 30 points) on the strength of his 4 touchdown passes in the Trojans’ 35-3 win over Ohio State.
Even though Daniel is the current favorite, voters were impressed by Sanchez, who trying to become the third USC quarterback this decade to win the Heisman.
"Sanchez has been excellent – and at times spectacular – like the other QBs I have listed,"
said one voter. "However, I feel like he’s faced the best competition thus far. In my opinion, his four touchdown passes against Ohio State’s defense sets him apart at this time."
Florida junior quarterback Tim Tebow dropped to third (3 first-place votes, 28 points) after a bye week, while Oklahoma sophomore quarterback Sam Bradford jumped into fourth place (24 points) after throwing 5 touchdown passes against Washington.
BYU junior quarterback Max Hall rounded out the top 5 (10 points).
