The mega event that kicks off the NFL’s 2011 season will be a ”offensive battle of the best”
, the New Orleans Saints guided by Drew Brees versus the Green Bay Packers led by Aaron Rogers. It’s a showcase of two of the leagues top offenses, and a showcase of two of it’s best quarterbacks.
By the way, theses teams also won the last two Superbowl’s, so Thursday September 8th’s match-up is not just for bragging rights only but the right to truly call one self the undisputed champ.
I went back and looked at each team’s numbers after their Superbowl seasons, and both are very similar.
The Saints were 6-2 at home and 7-1 on the road during the regular season in 2009, and 3-0 during the post season against tough competition, which ultimately ended in their Superbowl championship.
The Saints played the 10-6 Arizona Cardinals and won 45 - 14. Then the 12-4 Minnesota Vikings and won 31- 28 in overtime.
Next they finished off the 2009 season against the 14-2 Indianapolis Colt in Superbowl XLIV, grabbing the teams first Superbowl victory. They did it by destroying three future hall of fame quarterbacks in the process.
Saints quarterback Drew Brees threw for 4,388 yards, and 34 touchdowns compared to only 11 interceptions. The Saints tandom of running backs (Pierre Thomas, Reggie Bush, Mike Bell, Lynell Hamilton) finished with 1,984 total yards rushing.
