Once again, NFL fans are left with a quandary. Do we honour Michael Vick for his extraordinary play, or do we take exception based on his misdeeds.
Last night's game by Vick may have been the best ever by one QB in one game. Vick was responsible for 6 TDs (4 passes and 2 rushes) and helped the Eagles obliterate the Redskins by 31 points.
Even that score was flattering to the Redskins as $78 million-man QB Donovan McNabb had plenty of garbage time to score late. It was over before the first quarter whistle blew. 28-0 pretty well sealed it for the Eagles.
Vick has now fully recovered from his issues with the law and now vaults to the top of the MVP talk. No other current player possesses his combination of passing and rushing to bedevil defenses.
Down in Miami, former two-time comeback player of the year QB Chad Pennington came back Sunday and after the first snap, his career may be over.
The former Jet star will miss the rest of the year, after hurting his shoulder. For a 34-year old to come back from his third shoulder injury, is tough. Nonetheless, benched QB Chad Henne came in for Pennington and he got hurt as well.
So the Dolphins began using their RBs as QBs and they still won the game. From the team that popularized the Wildcat scheme in the NFL, it was quite the sight to see Sunday.
After the game, some commentators even suggested that former Raiders' QB Jamarcus Russell worked out for the Dolphins.
Oh man, can you imagine the big man-child throwing passes for Miami? Mercury Morris would never let that happen. He might just wield a bottle of champagne, just to prevent Russell from suiting up!
In Big D, the Cowboys finally showed up for a game, far too late to save Wade Phillips job. Playing against the best-team-in-the-NFC the Giants, the talented Cowboys actually whupped another team.
Former Troy Aikman backup Jason Garrett took over for Phillips and delivered a game plan that actually included RBs. Phillips game plans featured little use of the running game, which made no sense, especially considering their top QB Tony Romo has been injured for weeks.
Where were these guys during their 1-7 start?
Another team that has lived down to expectations are the Bengals, suffering yet another embarrassing loss. It wasn't close vs. the Colts, but who thought it would be?
Late in the game, coach Marvin Lewis was seen clapping, after losing a challenge. Perhaps he is happy that he is that much closer to the end of the season, when his contract also runs out?
